$5 seems rather expensive for a hotdog, but its unique Japanese style has caught attention. Japadog originally started in Vancouver in 2005 and is very popular. It was named “Best of Vancouver” 3 years in a row, and has become widely known throughout Vancouver. They have 4 hot dog stands and opened their first store in 2010. Celebrities like figure skater Miki Ando and Takahiko Kozuka, actor Steven Segal, rapper Ice Cube have stopped by!
The owner of Japadog is Noriki Tamura. A former businessman from Japan, Noriki moved to Canada with his wife to pursue his dream of creating his own company overseas. There, he started a hot dog stand. “What excited me the most was to create a food wagon overseas and to make it famous.”
They’ve opened a store in NY, and because of their success in Vancouver, it was featured in local NY news. Its unique originality of combining America’s “king of street food” the hot dog with Japanese ingredients, along with Noriki’s polite attitude, has earned Japadog its popularity and has made it to the U.S.. Japadog’s challenge has just begun.
